The village of Diakovce is located in the plains lying along the Danube 3 kilometers southwest from Šaľa. The village was established in the territory between river Váh and its backwater, which through the centuries has developed into the modern village, Diakovce.

The first inscription that mentions the territory of Diakovce can be found in the founding document of Saint Martin's monastery in Pannonhalma in 1002. The name WAG had been used to mark the territory of present Diakovce.

Several historical monuments have been preserved in the village, which are definitely worth visiting. First, belonging to one of the most noteworthy historical monuments in Slovakia from an architectural point of view, the monastery of Diakovce deserves attention. Second, the Pray codex had been used in the monastery in the first half to the 13th century. It is well known that it was on the 154th page of the Pray codex where the earliest written record of the Hungarian language, the Halotti Beszéd (Funeral Oration) had been found.

The castle built in 1700 should be mentioned among the historical monuments of the village as well as the Calvinist Church from 1791, Calvary from 1882, the mill from 1898, the old Catholic school from 1908 and the Calvinist school from 1928.

The village of Diakovce has been currently developed as well. Among the numerous current developments we should mention the newly rebuilt community arts center, the retirement home, the brand new village hall, and the monument built in 1996 to the memorial of the founding fathers of the municipality.
